AUSLAN CUSTOMISED TRAINING

Auslan Customised Training is tailor made programs for families, disability organisations, deaf-friendly small businesses, 1 on 1 and small group private tutoring, teachers and children, with all levels of experience.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Customised courses are charged at an hourly rate.

Customised courses are run in Phases.  A Phase = 16 sessions. You can book one session at a time but it is recommended to follow the phases.

If the structured courses do not meet your needs, we can design customised Auslan training tailored to your organisation, workplace, school, or community group.

You can select specific topics from across all course levels to create a program that suits your goals.

AUSLAN COURSES

We look forward to meeting you at one of our Auslan courses.

We deliver a variety of customised Auslan courses to meet individual and group needs.

Our courses are Auslan Introduction, Progression, Intermediate, Advanced and Masterclass.

Auslan is a language with its own grammar.

In Auslan, you sign the meaning not word for word like in Signed English.

Auslan is a visual language there is no written form like you have in other languages.

In Auslan, you use your whole body to communicate, hands, facial expression, body movements.

Our Auslan courses are delivered in public schedules dedicated or customised.

AUSLAN INTRODUCTION COURSE

Auslan is the language of the Australian Deaf Community.

Auslan stands for Australian Sign Language

The Introduction course is suitable for those with little or no sign language experience and is a great way to begin your Auslan journey.

You will learn sign production techniques, Auslan Grammar, Auslan History, and Vocabulary plus over 100 signs across 10 topics.

AUSLAN ADVANCE COURSE

Learning a second language may delay the onset of dementia. Learning another language strengthens the brain, it is like a workout for your brain, just like eating healthy and going to the gym strengthens your body, learning Auslan and becoming bilingual strengthens the brain.

This course is suitable for people who have completed our Auslan Intermediate Course and builds on grammar, culture and the history of Auslan.

Learn how to communicate with people who have Complex Communication Needs (CCN) for example people who use other modes of communication, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

You will learn other forms of visual communication.

AUSLAN MASTERCLASS

Congratulations you have done well getting this far.  The health benefits of learning Auslan is a great way of improving your life and improve your brain strength for later on in life.

Our Masterclass Course will open you up to many future opportunities, it will improve your memory skills, improve your English skills. Being bilingual or multilingual will keep mental aging and cognitive decline at bay.

This course is suitable for people who have completed our Auslan Advanced Course and will build on grammar, culture and the history of Auslan.

The final in our series of courses the Masterclass is not for the faint-hearted.  You will build on language across 40 topics.  This course builds on what you have previously learnt with 400+ signs across 40 topics.

You will gain a sound understanding of Auslan and how to communicate daily with Deaf people of all ages and signing styles.

DEAF AWARENESS TRAINING

Our Deaf Awareness Training increases awareness for hearing people who have contact with Deaf people through their workplace, school or organisation.

Deaf Awareness Training is delivered as a dedicated course.

Hearing participants will learn how to communicate with deaf people plus information about sign language and sound amplification devices used by some deaf people.

Our Deaf awareness training will give hearing people confidence in conversing with deaf people.

ONLINE TRAINING

Visual Communications Consultants can deliver all our courses online.

Sign Online is a live flexible, self paced, online course via zoom

and offers an Introduction to Auslan online learning option at a time that suits your schedule.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

By the end of Sign Online, students will be able to:

  • Say hello to others and introduce yourself in Auslan
  • Have an understanding and express sign production methods;
  • Give and ask personal details such as name, phone numbers and addresses;
  • Count in Auslan to 100;
  • Fingerspell in Auslan and understand where you use fingerspelling;
  • Ask and answer simple questions (using “who”, “what”, “when”, “where”, etc.);
  • Communicate practical vocabulary including colours, days of the week and family;
  • Express agreement and disagreement;
  • effectively communicate with a Deaf person using Auslan at a beginners level.

SIGNED ENGLISH

Signed English is a system of signing that matches a sign with each spoken English word. Following the same grammar as English, it was developed for language development.

Signed English uses some Auslan signs.

For Signed English, you sign every word. You can use Signed English with speech or without.

Our Signed English courses are delivered in public schedules, dedicated or customised.
